What We Look for in a Set of Hot Rollers:
In the new age of beauty of products, more than ever are consumers showing a concern for the health of their hair. This growing concern has forced the redesign of the original hot rollers. Science behind this affect is far from simple, but can be briefly explained. The ceramic and tourmaline materials for example, help create negative ions in your hair, which has been shown to drastically promote hair health. As we all know, this is extremely important since healthy hair means better looking style, and generally also means that styling will be easier.

The appearance of the system is quite appealing compared to other sets on the market. The rollers are tightly held next to each other, providing a compact system that will not bog your bathroom. 3. Remington Ionic Conditioning
- Coated with ceramic for ionic conditioning
- The core of the rollers are made with Remington exclusive wax technology, which evenly distributes heat along the rollers
- Includes 20 rollers which vary in 3 sizes, ( ¾”, 1” and 1¼”)
While the Remington’s hot roller system may not be jam-packed with features, it hold ups well against some of the best hot rollers on the market. Following the growing standards among the beauty industry, the rollers are coated with ceramic which helps promote hair health and deter the risk of damaging your hair.
Since this is budget-friendly products, here are some things to keep in mind. The hair roller system comes with color-coded clip for more effortless styling, however, the product does not come with butterfly clips which you should definitely get if you don’t already have. Contrary to high-end products, the Remington system does not heat up quickly. It can take up to 15 minutes for the rollers to reach full temperature. While this may not be a problem if you have the time, it could also be problematic when you are in a hurry.
Furthermore, hot roller system does not have an On/Off button, which means you will need to plug it every time you need to use it and remember to unplug when you are done. The system is however conveniently compact for a 20 roller set.
While the Remington Ionic Condition hot roller set may have some cons, but they are totally outweighed by it’s pros especially if you’re on a budget. At the base, the hot rollers are smooth, evenly-heated and remain so for about 1 hour. These are the kind of things that are needed to create pretty looking curls and the fact that the system lacks some of the more luxurious features becomes a negligible difference.
4. CARUSO Professional Molecular Steam Hairsetter
The Caruso Molecular Steam hairsetter is unique amongst other hot roller systems as it uses steam to create beautiful undulated curls. While the system is quite different from the traditional hot roller tools, the Caruso Molecular Steam Hairsetter is one of the best rated hot roller set on the market.
- Includes 30 steam hot rollers
- Comes with a total of 5 different sizes, 6 petite, 6 small, 6 medium, 6 large and 6 jumbo
- Low impact on the hair due to the use of steam
- Hair sets rather quickly, within 10-15 minutes
Personally, I found myself a bit skeptical at first, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the results. The system creates beautiful curls that stay in place for a long time. Also, I found that the curls we’re a lot more smoother and natural looking than what I typically see from other hot rollers.
Using the CARUSO Professional Molecular Steam hot roller system is unlike most hot rollers. Since the system makes use of steam to set hair into place, you will need to add water to it. Also, unlike many other hair roller systems, only 1 roller can be heated at a time. While heating each rollers one at a time may sound like a daunting task, it’s really not that bad. It takes only about 5 seconds to heat up a roller using the system, which is fast and should get you rolling with ease. However, to start, you will have to add water to the reservoir and allow a minute for the water to up and create steam. Once the system is steaming, you can begin applying heating your rollers. Once applied, the hair should be set within 10-15 minutes, which is in my experience, faster traditional hot rollers.
Note: while these hot rollers are more gentler than traditional hot rollers, it is still recommended that you use a thermal protector before using this product.
The set comes with 30 hot rollers that vary in size: 6 petite, 6 small, 6 medium, 6 large and 6 jumbo. You will also find included in the package of the Caruso hairsetter are clips for you to use. While it is nice to see them included with the product, I found them rather flimsy and would recommend you get others if you don’t already have.
Overall, the Caruso Professional is a great product. However, I would recommend this product for people people who have thin to normal hair since this product may not be strong enough for stronger, thicker hair.
5. Calista Tools Ion (long) Hot Roller Set – Recommended Hot Rollers for Long Hair

The hot roller set comes with 12 rollers that are all of the same size, 12 butterfly clips and travel bag. I would like to recommend that if you have fine hair, the clips might not be strong enough to hold your hair properly as I found them rather flimsy. I made use of the ones I already had instead and would recommend that you get better quality ones.
6. Calista Tools Ion (short) Hot Roller Set – Recommend Hot Rollers for Short Hair
The Calista Tools Ion Short Hot Rollers are mainly meant for people with short hair. The length of the rollers are shorter than the regular kind and thus people with shorter better ease when styling.

T3 Voluminous Hot Rollers – Best Set for Glamorous Big Wavy Curls
The T3 Voluminous Hot Rollers definitely stand in the high-end side when it comes to pricing. I was a bit skeptical when I got them at Sephora. I had the chance to read the reviews about this product online, which were very mixed, with negative reviews mainly focusing on the price payoff.
Meanwhile, the set had received many awards, notably Martha Stewart’s “Big Day Beauty Award”, Allure magazine’s Best Beauty Award & the Elle magazine Genius Award. So I didn’t know what to expect from this set when I bought it.
So what do I think? I got to use them on multiple occasions and they turned out to be of my favorites. In my opinion, these would serve you best if you are looking for a more luxurious product. It all comes down to the quality of the rollers, which in the case of the T3 Voluminous, is quite luxurious. The rollers are heavier than average and have a good weight balance which makes them more enjoyable during use.
- Comes with 4 large and 4 extra large rollers, which are best for big wavy curls
- Gorgeous slick design, velvety feel
- Rollers have a nice balanced weight, which is comfortable to use
- Coated with tourmaline with a ceramic core which works to create shinier hair and fight off frizz
- Heats up within 3 minutes
- Included: 8 spring-loaded clips
Dimensions: 8.4 x 4.1 x 3.5 inches
Weight: 1 pound
Storage bag: Yes
Warranty: Yes, 2 Years.
The T3 roller set is also aesthetically pleasing. The edge of the rollers have an origami-style rim that gives them a slick and modern appearance. Also, I was really surprised to see a hot roller set that came with decent clips. This is very important in the case of the T3 since the rollers are a lot heavier than you typically, lower-end set, which I like.
The rollers uses ionic technically with its rollers which have a ceramic core that is coated with tourmaline. This helps the heat penetrate your hair safely and create shinier looking hair without the frizz. As mentioned many times in this article, this is extremely important considering the fact that applying to your hair is already bad enough. Ionic technology is a proper safe guard against hair, however, this does not mean you should do without a heat protection spray.
The set only heats up with one temperature setting, which is at 250°F ,which in my opinion presents a draw back for this product. Everybody has different hair and personally, I like to find the sweet-spot temperature for my hair.
The T3 hot roller set is geared towards created big wavy, beach-style curls due to the size of the rollers. The set includes 4 large and 4 extra large rollers, which means you won’t be able to create very tight curls with it. The T3 will create loose, natural, glam-inspired curls and is not meant to create sturdy and clean-cut curls. If you need a more versatile set, I would not recommend this set. I would moreover recommend a set that has a wider range of roller sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions about the T3 Voluminous Hot Rollers Set
Q: Is the T3 Voluminous a good product for thin hair?
A: Yes. I would especially recommend this product since thin hair tends to lack volume. The rollers in this set are quite large which helps create volume.
Q: Can I use my own hair clips on this product?
A: Yes, I would suggest you use metal clips since plastic clips may melt due to the heat of the rollers. Personally, I quite like the clips since they have long claws and really perform well doing what they were meant to do.
Will this roller set work in the United Kingdom?
Yes. The product automatically adjusts voltage is between 100 and 240 volts depending on the power supply. So to the best of my knowledge, this woud work in the United Kingdom.
How To Hot Rollers Without Damaging Your Hair
Styling your hair with hot rollers, can create beautiful glamorous hairstyle. But hot rollers, or any heated tool for that matter, can potentially damage your hair if you are not using proper safeguards. In this section of this article, I will explain what you can do to protect your hair from heat-induced damage while maintaining your hairstyle of choice.
But first, let’s examine the causes of hair damage. Hair are made of layers of cuticles, which absorbs and retains moisturize inside the hair. When hair is damaged, the layers of cuticles become raised, and the surface of the hair becomes harsh and jagged. Furthermore, once raised, the cuticles can no longer retain moisture inside the hair, which causes dryness and frizz and many other symptoms. There are many ways your hair can become damaged, which includes: dyes, bleaching treatments, heated tools, sun rays, excessive brushing and harsh handling of the hair.
Now let’s take a more in depth look into the symptoms of hair damage. This is important for you to know, because if your hair is already damaged, may it be cause by heated tools or chemical processes like bleaching, then the use of hot rollers will only add to the problem. In this case, I would recommend that you wait until the damaged hair has grown out before you start using hot rollers, or any other form of heated tool on your hair. Below is a list of common symptoms associated with damaged hair.
- Excessively dry hair
- Frizzier hair than usual, that are unmanageable
- Dullness of the hair, lacking shine and elasticity
- Easily gets tangles
- Excessive split ends
- Clumps of hair falling
If you have any of the symptoms above, then using hot rollers may not be the best idea. While this is true in the most case however, you are the best judge of the situation and should venture further at your own risk. 😉
How to Prevent Hair Damage from Hot Rollers
Newly developed hot rollers are now equipped with ionic technology which reduces the risk of hair damage from using them. The above list of the best hot rollers was based off many criteria, one of which was that the roller system had to have ionic technology. In today’s market, more than ever are buyer’s looking to maintain their health, which includes the health of their hair.
A hot rollers system lacking ionic technology is in my opinion, not fit for the needs of customers in 2018. Ionic technology in short, helps close that gaps between the layers (cuticles) of your hair. One could argue, that using ionic helps maintain and promote hair health as it strengthens the bonds between each layer on an atomic level. To learn more about ionic technology, read the section below.
Shampooing and Conditioning
This is a topic which is quite controversial in the beauty world. You might have heard of many trends like cowashing, where people refrains from using shampoo and only use conditioner to wash their hair. While this techniques has some merits, I will recommend a more conventional approach which involves shampoo and conditioning for the purpose of this article. But if you are open to the idea of kicking shampoo to the curve, then cowashing would be a technique that I recommend (especially if you have damaged hair).
Heat Protection Spray
Use a heat protection spray! I’m astounded to hear so many of my clients saying they don’t use this. Meanwhile, this is the most important step you can take towards protecting your hair from heat-induced hair damage.
Basically, what the spray does is coat our hair with agents that work to protect your hair follicles from heat. Furthermore, it helps your hair stay in the shape you are creating with your heated tool. So not only does it protect your hair, it also helps you style it!
A bottle of heat protection spray goes for less than ten bucks and should be used before the use of any heated tool. This includes blow-dryers and hair straighteners.
We would recommend choosing hot rollers within the category that fits your hair type. For example, thick hair and thin hair do not responds the same to the same type material.
Thick hair requires more hear and a smoother and more slippery surface on which the hair is set. Titanium-made hot rollers for example, are one of the best options for those with thick hair. This is mainly for due to their ability to retain higher temperatures of heat and the smoothness of their surface.

Hot rollers can work wonders on thin hair, which oftentimes needs more volume. However, thin hair are more susceptible to hair damage from heated tools. To make matters worst, people with thinner, finer hair are prone to balding, which adds an extra element of danger.
To make sure this doesn’t happen to you, I would recommend a roller set that is more fitting for your hair type. When we’re looking for the top hot rollers for thin hair, we’re looking for two things. First, we want a set that can be set at low temperatures. Thin hair absorbs heat extremely fast so high temperatures are not needed and should be avoided. Secondly, we want the rollers that will have a good grip on the hair, so avoid titanium-coated rollers which are too slippery.
Recommendation for thin hair: Infiniti Pro
Note: while the Infiniti Pro is may work best for thin hair, I would strongly recommend that you also follow my guidelines for preventing hair damage. As mentioned earlier, thin hair is more susceptible to hair damage, so it’s important you take the necessary precautions.
Hair length is an important component when choosing the right set of hot curlers.
For those with short hair, choosing the appropriate size of the rollers will be of great importance. Many hot roller sets come with rollers that vary in size. Choose a set that carries some small and medium sized rollers. However, stay away from jumbo-sized hot rollers.
Click here to see rollers for short hair.
It can be hard to create a tight up-do with hot rollers on long hair. This is caused by the weight of the hair, pulling down on the curls. Pro tip: apply hairspray while the hot rollers are on for a stronger hold! If you have long hair, I recommend you go for a more beach waves kind of look. Personally, I love this one because its easy to pull off but is still very edgy.
When it comes to best hot curlers for long hair, I recommend sets that have large and extra-large rollers. For obvious reasons, this make it easier for you to work with. However, it would not be a bad thing to see a few smaller sized rollers in your set. For one, you could use these rolls on your bangs. But most notably, you could use these rolls along the bigger rolls. This will help you create a more variability in the size of the curls you create, which in turn will give a more natural look. After using your hot rollers, make sure you to tussle your hair enough so that the curls blend in together.
Recommendations for long hair: Calista Tools Ion Long Set, Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium
Guidelines to Follow
Using a curling tool of any type, will require you to have the necessary complementary products. Hot rollers is of no exception.
Hair Protection Spray
First and foremost, the use of a hair protection spray will maintain your hair’s natural health and shine. Your hair is important, and damage hair can never be fully repaired. By taking the appropriate precautions, you can avoid such damage.
Good old hair spray is of the game when using hot rollers. We recommend that you spray your hair before and after you use your hot rollers. First, the goal of applying the hairspray before using the hot rollers is to ensure that the rollers will set the hair curl into a curl once removed. The second application of hairspray (the finishing touch), will then ensure your hair stays in place for longer periods of time. However, make sure to shape your hair in your desired style and tussle before applying the finishing touch of hairspray. This will help you make the most out of your hot rollers.
The aforementioned products were tested in store and we believe these represent the best hot rollers on the market today. This list of products will be updated as needed. The beauty industry historically, has shown to be slow at
